Mine Rescue Course
This course provides students with basic knowledge and skill training in the rescue procedures to be followed in the event of an accident at either an Underground or a Surface mining operation. Some of the topics covered include: Mine Rescue Operations, Mine Gases- Recognition, Effects and Treatment, Oxygen Therapy, Gas-Detection Instruments, Fire Awareness, Respiratory Protective Equipment, Electrical Safety, Rescue Rigging, Rescue Operations, Special Hazards of Winter Conditions, Scene Assessment and Incident Command, Knots/ Harnesses, Pulleys, Stretcher Tie-ins. Yukon Workers Compensation Health and Safety Board (YWCHSB) endorsed, the Mine Rescue is instructed to the Western Canada Mine Rescue Manual, Ministry of Energy and Mines, Office of the Chief Inspector of Mines. Mine Rescue Instructor Course
Candidates for the mine rescue instructor course need current Mine Rescue training certification and have a working knowledge of the aspects of mine rescue as outlined in the current Western Canada Mine Rescue Manual, Ministry of Energy and Mines, Office of the Chief Inspector of Mines. The course is designed to provide basic instruction in teaching skills along with evaluation of the knowledge of the candidate with respect to the aspects of mine rescue. The course spans over a period of 5 days and 8 hours per day with some after class study and preparation of assigned tasks. Participants will explore various instructional techniques which will assist in their individual role as a mentor, trainer or facilitator for their company/organization. By the end of the course, through the use of various activities, group work and student presentations, participants will have gained valuable experience in making presentations, and numerous fundamental instructor skills that will improve their confidence and ability as a Mine Rescue instructor. All candidates are examined by a YWCHSB Safety Officer.
