Hazard Assessment and Control

 

Pre-Requisites:  None

Through facilitated instruction, discussion, and exercises, this course will assist supervisors, and other participants to conduct effective hazard assessments.

This is a 1/2 day course that is designed for individuals, supervisors or managers.

The purpose of Hazard Assessment and Control, whether it is done by an individual, foreman or crew in the field or through an analysis of inspection reports, incident reports, and job hazard analysis is to effectively reduce risks of injury in the workplace.

We take participants through the six steps to do a complete Hazard Assessment. The 6 steps are:

Step 1:               List types of work and work related activities

Step 2:               Identify the hazards and who might be affected

Step 3:               Prioritize the hazards

Step 4:               Identify and implement hazard controls

Step 5:               Comunicate

Step 6:               Evaluate Effectiveness

The control of hazards is presented in the following order to remove or control risk:

  • Elimination
  • Substitution
  • Administrative Controls
  • Engineering Controls
  • Personal Protective Equipment

This course is available through the Northern Safety Network Yukon and complements the Hazard Assessment, Recognition and Control component of the Principles of Health and Safety Management course.
