Leadership for Safety Excellence
Course Description
This is a two day course designed for management and supervisory positions. This program will enable supervisors to build health and safety into their every-day planning, create and promote a safe work environment where people can work safely, and help make a lasting contribution to the reduction of incidents in the industry.
Although this course has no pre-requisites, it is recommended that the Principles of Health and Safety Management be taken prior to this.

Owner Operator Certificate of Proficiency (OCOP)
Course Description
The Owner Operator Certificate of Proficiency (OCOP) is a half day Occupational Health and Safety certification program for the Yukon Owner Operator businesses; no employees, no subcontractors.
When you don’t have employees or subcontract (thus making you the Constructor) there is no requirement for a safety management system that is at the auditable standard of COR.
The Owner Operator Certificate of Proficiency is recognition that supports your safe business practices.
Some general examples:
- Taking the time to minimize the hazards of your worksite
- Being capable of controlling the hazards and reducing the risk
- Upholding the safety culture of the worksite

BC Traffic Control Person (BCTCP)
Course Description
This two day course provides participants with qualifications allowing them to become a Traffic Control Person (TCP) in the Yukon and British Columbia. Field sessions will give participants a chance to practice basic traffic control skills and demonstrate competence. These field sessions will include setting up, controlling and removing work zones in: A two-lane, two-way roadway with a speed limit of 50 km/h, an intersection, a work zone that uses only one TCP.
Students will need to bring approved safety footwear with toe and ankle support, and all weather clothing for outdoor practical sessions. It is recommended that students bring Their own refreshments and lunch - course may be in a location where you cannot buy food or anything to drink
*Your knowledge and practical skills will be evaluated during the course through a written exam, and a practical skill evaluation exercisesParticipants MUST receive 80% on the written exam and demonstrate 100% competency in order to pass this course.

Safety in Bear Country
Course Description
This half day course gives participants the skills to travel in bear country as safe as possible while working in bear territory. It focuses on those who work in the industrial sector - such as exploration camps, and mines; but is valuable to anyone travelling or working in bear country.
Some topic covered include: How to avoid bear encounter, How to minimize bear attractants, What to do in the event of an encounter, Identifying different bear species, Key messages to give to clients, How to use deterrents (excluding firearms), Responsibilities as an employee or employer working in bear country, How to set up a camp and minimize bear attractants and encounters.

Confined Space Entrant/Attendant
Course Description
This two day course (one full day and one half day - 12 hours) course is for workers and supervisors who will be conducting work in and around Permit and Non-Permit Confined Spaces.
Students gain the knowledge and skill to identify Confined Spaces, assess and mitigate hazards, operate gas detectors, develop ventilation and rescue plans, make safe entries, and perform external rescue.
Day One is general learning and group exercises/scenarios.
Day Two is hands-on practical skills performed in small groups.
** Students to bring personal PPE if available, (Hard hat, harness, Steel toe boots or shoes) to the hands on session - Day 2. Dress adequately for being outside in varying temperatures.
Students must demonstrate competency in the practical skills taught to obtain certification. Upon completion students are qualified to perform the roles of Confined Space Entrant and Attendant. Course certification is recognized by YWCHSB.

This comprehensive program consists of the following: Classroom training on the theory & operation of the machine. Includes the use of workbooks and video. Hands on operation of the particular Elevated Work Platform machine families.
Instruction in the use of the various safety devices associated with the machine. Evaluation is bases on participants ability to demonstrate the following:
Daily inspection procedure. Site inspection for hazards. Demonstration of safe operation of the machine. Completion of a quiz on all aspects of the operation of the equipment as well as the regulations relating to the safe operation of the equipment.

Industrial ATV Operator Training
Course Description
The Industrial ATV Operator Certification course is one day Canada Safety Council certified program that provides riders with a solid base of practical skills and behaviors for safer and more responsible ATV riding in the workplace.
The course is primarily hands-on (riding lessons), and is supplemented by interactive discussion lessons at the course site. The riding lessons provide riders step by step "hands-on" practice of riding skills under the supervision of the instructor, and the discussion lessons provide an introduction to the principles and practices of safe and responsible ATV operation.
The lessons included in the ATV Operator course include: ATV safety basics and pre-inspection, Proper selection and use or riding gear and personal protective equipment (PPE), Pre-ride inspection and safe start-up procedures, Safe turning and braking, Emergency stopping, Safe riding strategies and risk management, Collision avoidance, Riding on hills and difficult terrain, Riding over obstacles, Emergency preparedness, Safe loading and unloading, Trail riding basics
As the course is primarily field-based, participants should attend the course with all necessary equipment, lunch, sufficient fuel/oil, and proper clothing suited to the weather conditions.
Participants are responsible for providing the following for the course:
- An ATV (must be in good condition, with controls and safety features in working order).
- DOT or Snell compliant helmet.
- Goggles, safety glasses, or face shield.
- Over the ankle boots (no running shoes allowed).
- Gloves, long pants, and long sleeves that provide protection from branches or debris.
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be issued an ATV rider certificate from the Canada Safety Council.

Industrial ATV Operator Training
Course Description
This course uses classroom and field activities to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to develop safe and effective snowmobile operation habits. The activities and topics included in the course curriculum include:
- Understanding riding risks, identifying/assessing hazards, and preparing for snowmobiling conditions.
- An introduction to effective risk management while snowmobiling.
- A review of regulations for snowmobile use, and of Yukon Workers Compensation Health and Safety Board (YWCHSB) regulations and best practices for the use of snowmobiles in the workplace.
- A review of the layout and controls of a snowmobile, pre-ride and periodic inspections, and field troubleshooting.
- Planning for snowmobile outings/trips, including preparing tool kits, survival gear, and field maintenance materials.
- Exercises in basic riding skills, including riding positions, cornering, traversing hills, trail riding, and handling obstacles.
- Exercises in advanced riding skills, including technical trails, deep snow, traversing larger hills (tailored to the group).
- Transporting and loading/unloading snowmobiles.
- Basic avalanche awareness.
Participants are required to provide a snowmobile and basic riding gear/personal protective equipment appropriate to the outdoor conditions on the course days.
PPE/ Gear required:
- Snowmobile helmet in good condition, with a face shield.
- Appropriate cold weather gear - gloves or mitts, Boots, warm clothing to protect from cold/wind (layered preferable).
- Clothing for inspection, outdoor demonstrations and maintenance section (cool garage - toque, mitts, etc.).
